Backup And Restore
EcoPaste can export and import .ecopastebak backup containers. Backups are useful before changing machines, reinstalling, or adding an extra safety layer before and after legacy migration.
Export A Backup
Open the data section in Preferences and choose export backup. You can choose:
- Encrypted backup: recommended, protected by a backup password.
- Plain backup: not password-protected, readable by anyone who has the file.
EcoPaste does not store backup passwords. If you forget the password, an encrypted backup cannot be recovered.
Import A Backup
When importing .ecopastebak, EcoPaste first identifies the backup type. Encrypted backups require the backup password.
Import strategies include:
- Merge import: useful for normal recovery, merging backup content into current data.
- Overwrite import: replaces selected current data with the backup state. Use only when you are certain that is what you want.
Legacy Data
The first-launch legacy data step scans old default directories in read-only mode and follows custom storage directories recorded by the old settings. Detection does not modify old directories and does not import anything automatically.
You can choose to import normal items, favorite items, or both.
